Crockett received a second term in 1829, when his fellow Tennessean, Andrew Jackson, entered the White House. Although he initially endorsed the president, Crockett and Jackson split over the president’s Indian Removal Bill, which Crockett foresaw would lead to the tragic Trail of Tears. He wrote:
